Fellow Londoners:
I warmly welcome you to this vital new website generated by the Mayor’s Task Force to End Woman Abuse, which was established in October 2006.
Since that time, several community leaders have enthusiastically responded to my call to action on this Task Force to address the growing issue of woman abuse in our community. Motivated by reports of increased violence against women and incidents of death and devastation caused by men who inflict lethal harm on the women in their lives - we have one common purpose - to end woman abuse.
Among our goals, we are striving to enhance relationships among police, education, health, business, labour, government and woman abuse experts. We also aim to bring substantial public awareness to the issue of woman abuse and its horrific impact on the community.
Throughout the month of November, the Task Force is staging an Awareness Campaign across the city, and this website is one component of our action plan. We hope this important community resource will provide both help and hope to those in crisis, and guidance for those who know someone who needs help now.
Sincerely,
Anne Marie DeCicco-Best
Mayor of London
Welcome to the Mayor’s Task Force to End Woman Abuse website. When Mayor DeCicco-Best launched the Task Force, I challenged men to get involved - to mentor and teach young boys how to be men in ways that did not involve degrading or abusing women. I challenged boys and men to not be silent if a brother, friend, classmate, or team mate is being abusive towards a girl or a woman. Violence is a men’s issue.
I am pleased this important website is now operational. It represents the culmination of work by a lot of people in our community, who are dedicated to ending violence against women. I hope you will spend some time investigating the website. There is a lot of good information contained in it and important links to guide you.
If you are a woman who has been abused, I hope you will find the information and assistance you need. The London Police Service is here to help you, anytime - day or night.
