Why Establish a Mayor’s Task Force?
We are a caring, responsive community committed to the health and well-being of all Londoners. The actions we take will be socially, environmentally and fiscally responsible so that our quality of life is enhanced and sustained for future generations. Our people, heritage, diverse economy, strategic location, land and resources are our strengths (Vision London, 1996).
Men and women working together can make significant gains towards reducing abuse against women and the killing of women by their intimate partners or ex-partners. We all have a role to play. Under the leadership of Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco-Best, the City of London, in collaboration with the business, labour, education, health care and human service sectors, will champion this cause.
What Will the Task Force Do?
Enhance the ability of the business, labour, government and human service sectors to respond more effectively to issues of woman abuse.
How Will We Do This?
- Develop relationships among woman abuse experts, the human service sector, the City of London, the Province of Ontario, the Federal Government, and the business labour, education and health care sectors.
- Make available practical workplace training materials to assist each sector to respond effectively in proactively approaching situations of woman abuse.
- Work with the local media to inform, educate and bring public awareness to the issue of woman abuse and its impact on the community.
- Hold a conference utilizing local experts where we can showcase the best practices of our business, government and human service sectors.
What Will Change as a Result of the Task Force’s Work?’
All sectors in the City of London will be prepared to respond more effectively to issues of woman abuse through personal, social and political action.
The work of the Task Force will result in an enhanced quality of life for all Londoners in their work, play and home.
